I play a little accordion but my main instrument is the drums......I eventually like to start singing in public.....and I'm also taking sax at school....I'm actually pretty good at that too...I want to be able to play like Jimmy Garcia.
No musican masters any instrument. If a musican says he mastered an instrument it's a lie. The day you stop learning is the day you fall behind the others. There is always something new to learn.
I agree with you,Black Scorpion,100%!!!!!!And Lil Leo,sounds to me like you are on the right road!!!!You play Accordion,Drum's,Sax, and you want to sing!!Stay in School and just keep doing what your doing, and the world is your's!!!!!Nothing can stop you!!!!School/college is the most important!!!! Your Friend,Rick D.
Let me re-phrase that. How many instruments can you play on a proffessional level? And for the record....I was directing that question just to Leo, I was asking everybody who posted.
Thanks Rick for the advice to LIL Leo i agree with you. Leo school should always be your #1 thing get the best education you can. As for the question it's hard to answer because what is the standard for playing at a pro level? I heard guys (musicans) who can't play much but have huge followings and numerous cd's. Then on the flip side you got guys that know there instruments inside and out but just don't draw much interest from the public, you have to be another musican to really appreciate them. Bottom line conjunto music is about keeping it simple pero alegre!
I agree with BS and HHH, i like to think that i know my accordion in and out but by no means am i a master. Like they said there is no true masters out there. As for a pro level, well it's hard to say. Like Black Scorpion wrote some guys are good and don't get any props for their work. While other guys can't play a lick and have recorded cd's up the wazoo. It's all in your presentation and how you connect to the fans.
Thanks to the both of you Mr. Rick and Black Scorpion...I've decided to get a scholarship in either band or basketball for my college education....my parents encourage me to do what I like best and use it to gain the most in life....and those are the 2 things I love most....music and sports...as far as me being able to play the accordion and drums....No....I'm not a "master" or a "professional"....but I LOVE what I do....I have been on stage with Los Tejano Boys, Los Monarcas, Johnny Cruz, Invicto, Grupo Impossible (among others) and I've played at Fan Fair about 4 years in a row...for about 20-25 minutes here and there, now mind you...they're not gonna give me a "professional's" timeslot, but I don't think that's doing so bad, do you?
That's Awsome,Lil Leo!!!!Sounds like you have two very loving parent's who are very proud of you and want the best for you!!!!!sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders!!!! God Bless you, and your family, and may all your dreams come true!!!! As Always,Your friend:Rick D./Los "D" Boyz
