Here's a bit about them:
Promesa Mortal is a young, energetic, family band based out of Houston, TX. Antes conocidos como Tina y Los Gallitos, PM sigue trabajando para que nuestra musica de Bajo Sexto y Acordeon nunca se acabe. Their age, talent, and musical chemistry make them a musical prodigy. The bands goal is to make a difference in this music industry and to inspire other young musicians that they can make it, as long as they work hard and never lose faith.
The band started when 9 year old Robert picked up his fathers' old Santa Marsela accordion. Robert's parents saw his interest in music and started him off on accordion lessons. He has been recognized as 'El Jefe del Acordeon' for his amazing skills on the squeeze box. In 2006, he accompanied Alejandra Guzman at the Selena Vive Concert. Robert was also one of the semi-finalists for the "Big Squeeze" Contest with the Texas Folklife Organization. He also sings and acts as the bands musical director along with his siblings.
PM features one of the only female bajo sexto players in the industry. Tina first picked up the bajo at the young age of 9 years old, one year after her brother Robert started learning. Many promoters chose not to hire the band because of the fact that they featured a girl musician. They simply stated that girls cannot play a mans instrument, they can only sing and dance. One of her goals is to inspire other young female musicians into this male dominated genre. "Tambien Las Mujeres Pueden!" Her peers have named her 'La Reina del Bajo' and she was awarded 'Best Young Bajo Player' at the 2005 STCA Awards. Tina sings lead vocals in the band and is also the bands manager/promoter. She is an aspiring songwriter.
The youngest member of the band is 19 year old John. He has been playing bass guitar since he was only 6 years old and is one of the most professional musicians you will ever meet. 'El Patron' is his name because when it comes to keeping the rhythm solid and steady, John is the man. He was a scholarship recipient at the Veterano Festival back in 2005 for his bass playing skills. One of his personal goals is to play along side his idols, Hernan Hernandez of Los Tigres del Norte, and JoJo Garza of Los Lonely Boys.
The rockin drummer girl 'Miss Sunshine' is also promoting women in the industry. Priscilla received the award for "Best Young Drummer Player" at the 2006 STCA Awards. She keeps the band on beat with her drumming skills. Priscilla joined the band back in 2004 when they were TYLG. She would like to continue pursuing her musical career along with her family, PM.
Together the band has been working on releasing their debut Album. They are mixing the old school with the new modern style adding a very unique sound to their music. Their choreography and passion during live performances keeps the audience cheering and wanting more. The band won "Best Tejano/Norteno" at the 2006 Houston Press Music Awards. PM will continue playing music, working towards their goal of signing with a major record label and touring around the world promoting nuestra musica latina. Promesa Mortal thanks all their loyal fans for their continued support.
