Still suffering from the effects of a Saturday night "drink a thon" with our compadres (last beer was drunk at 5 in the morning)....Mrs. Hustletown and I showed up at Maks fashionably late, instantly we were greeted by that sweet sound of a Hohner, and that distinctive voice that belongs to Mando...Mando y La Venganza has been for a long time one of my favorite conjuntos out there, He, along with Johnny Cruz, Los 4 Aces, Los Tremendos V, and Boni Maurico are what developed my taste in conjunto music, in other words when I grow up....I wanna be just like these guys.........The crowd, though not as large (expected for a 4th of July holiday) was actually louder and more enthusiastic the most times we have been there....this could probably be attributed to the fact that Mando attracts a large following of young ladies to his concerts and they definately show up to swoon over Mando's every word....lol...pinche locas....anyway....the band was tight as always....Mando on accordion, Mr. Flipper Luna on bass, and in my humble opionion one of the best bajo players in conjunto Mr. Primo Garcia (this guy played the intro to "VOODOO CHILD" on a bajo sexto) not only did my head pop up when I heard the begining notes, but I am pretty sure Jimi Hendrix sat up, bumped his head on his coffin and said WTF? The drummer....well, what can I say?.....Jason Lara...You were really missed my friend...well, they covered all my personal favorites...nomas este rey, tirame al leon, el arrepentido, some of the new material for his upcoming CD, played some badd ass cumbias that really got the crowd going, overall a great show, and a great time had by alll....Shout out to Mr. Ron Walker!!!, he got to play a couple of polkas with La Venganza, did a great job once again.....til next week....aye los wacho....
P.S. Next review will be Los D boys @ HALLABALOOS on JULY 9TH, mano a mano con Houston's own IMPOZZIBLE......Are you ready brother RICK?
