The passing of Mr. Ruben Vela really got me to thinking, even though I am a big fan of his music, I realized that I never got to see him perform live...so I am making a list of some great artists that I have to see perform before they are no longer around for me to do so.....
1. Ruben Ramos..... 2. Mingo Saldivar.... 3. Flaco Jimenez.... 4. Steve Jordan
these are just the ones that come to mind right now....any suggestions?
I can honestly say that I have seen all the great ones of conjunto at the Conjunto Festival in San Antonio,Texas. My bucket list will probably include all the up and coming conjuntos of this generation. I am hoping that this generation keep conjunto music alive and well. The young chicanos and chicanas need to understand the roots of this music and not try and blend in with the pop music, country music that frowns on our culture and heritage.
Well Mingo has combined Country and Conjunto for years. Flaco of course was a member of The Texas Tornadoes and they crossed several genres. It can be done and it can be special. However I do understand that when you say combining it with country music that this may not be what you are talking about.
Hey Bro, just wanted to say thanks for the job that you are doing over there, God Bless you and all our troops, be safe, and come home safe.....thanks again
We have really suffered a great loss with the passing of Ruben Vela, but he will be remembered as a legend of conjunto music. I noticed that your bucket list included seeing Mingo Saldivar perform live which caught my eye because I am his manager and daughter. If you would like to email me your contact information I would be happy to send you an autographed poster. tricia.saldivar@sbcglobal.net
That would be awesome....thank you very much!!! I am actually turning my game room in my house into a "conjunto shrine?" lol....I am putting up pictures that I have taken with bands, got an accordion that a friend gave me that I am having signed by not just any accordion player, but those who I consider the best, and of course my personal favorties, when that is done I am gonna hang it on the wall with some lights and stuff.....then you guys will be invited to a BB-QUE, we'll put the Ipod on random, last I checked I had over 1800 songs on there, have a few drinks, and party.....
Ponle brotha, next time i plan on going to Htown i will hit you up so we can hang. Likewise when your in 361 let me know and we can party puro estilo 361 eso!
Mine would be...La Mafia. I have never seen them live..i know i know I'm from houston and have never seen them play. I know one member, and saw Oscar while he came in on a few songs with Los Palominos at the Outdoor Miller.
