Ok Peepz... a great 2009 is over and I thought now would be a good time to give credit where credit is due. Thats right its time for the First annual TAP awards. Unlike other awards... these are scientifically based on whomever I want to give them too. No web votes needed. And yes I am well aware of my bias towards VyA (Veronica is my little sister for those of you who do not know) so it is for that reason she is disqualified from the TAP awards....
So here we go:
TAP's TOP 5 FEMALES of 2009
No. 5 - Monica Castro Monica has established herself in the Arizona Tejano scene and won this years TTMA Award for Best new female. A great accomplishment for a female artist, especially coming from outside of Texas.
No.4 Shelly Lares Shelly Lares as a radio DJ = Awesome. This is a perfect combonation... Like Laura Canales before her, She has the experience and knowledge to command respect on the radio airwaves and this is a perfect avenue for her to show a personality that keeps her a fan favorite.
No. 3 Linda Escobar The Conjunto Queen finally got the recognition she deserves at this years TTMA. You know ... scratch that... she got some recognition, but deserves more. Not only does she do great work with the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame... she also does outstanding work with the El Veterano Conjunto Festival which raises money for the Eligio Escobar Scholarship Fund.
No. 2 Elida Reyna Elida Reyna has been the most consistant female artist not only of this year... but of this decade. This year was no different. Great song after great song... her library of hits gets bigger and bigger with every cd release she has. The Queen had a banner year if not for the accomplishments for one female artist that made history...
No. 1 Stefani Montiel So it is hard for a female in this industry. I know you have heard that before. It's true... I've seen the issues first hand. It is for this reason that Stefani Montiel along with Ro Records being nominated for a Grammy this year is such a big deal. This years cd entitiled "Divina" was so good that other cd's began to be judged by it. Other male artists began to be called out right here on the TJ for their efforts not being as good... that is awesome LOL. She is in the company of other Great releases this year... all deserving... but Stefani's cd is changing the game... and change is good.
