Hi friends i am hoping to get some advice. I have a conjunto and we are finally ready to record our first cd. My question is what is the best way to go about chosing material for the cd? I am new to this and any advice would be wonderful. I have always looked up to Tremendous V cause they had excellent material on those 2 cd's they did, how do i find great material like that? Thanks guys
find your self somebody that writes songs .dontcopy what other have done do your own songs do at lease half of the cd originals . radio stations like that .i use too get songs that were already recorded and went no were with them.now i record at lease 50 % originalsongs and do good.even the tremendos v do my songs, that i have recorded. your friend EDGAR VASQUEZ Y SUS MUCHAHOS
All our music came from Tony De La Rosa, Angel Flores, JJ Y Los Sentellas, and Conjunto Bermal. And we always did our own arrangements unless we were doing a tribute potpurri. Then we played the arrangements as close to the artists arrangements as possible.
I'm not saying we didn't do any of Mr. Vasquez' songs live, we may have, I'm not that familiar with all of his music to know like the other guys were. I came from a Mariachi background, so I've heard all of these songs in there original forms. A lot of these songs were written by Cucu Sanchez, Jose Alfredo Jimenez and other 19th century somg writers...Look those guys up for material.
When we looked for a song, we asked ourselves has anyone recorded it lately, is it catchy, is it complicated (will it show off what we can do Technically?), and they always tried to find one that they knew was in my vocal range, if not we would put it in my range (they liked the high ones...lol).
Thanks to everyone for the advice. Issac thanks for explaining how T5 did things. As a vocalist myself you are one my idols. Having you answer my question means a whole lot to me. Thank you and i will take your advice. I have been looking at alot of older material from Ruben Vela to record, he has a treasure chest of great songs that you don't hear much anymore.
Ruben Vela is a great place to start looking for material. I myself am going to record "Te Quiero Mucho Mucho" on our upcoming cd. I love old Ruben Vela material.
Ruben Vela is a great choice to get ideas from. I myself have been learning some of his old stuff on Dina records cause i want to record it soon. Te Quueiro mucho mucho is on my list to record aswell.
haha crazy ... thats all we've been lookin at ... pure ruben vela stuff .... yall will see in the next cd .... excellent material just mix it up an do it ur style ...
I love Ruben Vela's music, might even get some of those for myself loli think a cd with at least a 50/50 mix of new and classic songs would be best to start off with. Give it a try and see how the people respond. Good luck Rodz and remember we are here if you need any advice.
Correct,Tony wrote it and recorded it with my dad.Si tu te vas a Ir is by a freind of ours named Rodolfo Vasquez. But both were recorded first by my dad.
