I love reading your colum Maggie. I have a question here goes:
I been dating a girl for 3 weeks, but her birthday is coming up, and i don't know whether to buy her a big gift or just keep it simple. Thanks and i would also like some idea for the gift. Thanks Maggie
Buy her a huge gift, gi-normous! Haha, just kiddin, since it's been a small amount of time that you have been dating, I would stick to a small simple gift. Reason being: You don't want to scare her away. Now, I don't know how she is, maybe she likes gifts, but I would definately start out small and work your way up. Now, if you want to go fancy you can get her a necklace, bracelet, or some earrings. They don' t have to be expensive remember it's the thought that counts. You may want to take her to dinner or a movie, or both. Or you can take her on a romantic picnic in the park. Remember if you are unsure what to get her, a bouquet of flowers should do the trick. You can also buy her things that she uses, or buy her gift cards from her favorite places or place. I'm sure she would love any simple little thing you would give her; for the fact that you're even buying her anything at all. Some guys don't even do that. Anything from you she will keep and treasure because it will be one of the first few things to remind her of this relationship. Think my first b-day gift from my now husband was a pair of pajamas lol, but you know what, i used those suckers till there was no more life in them, and I liked the fact that he thought of me to begin with. I think I also got a pair of earrings along with those. This was like 8 years ago, my mind is kinda rusty But anyways, just buy from your heart and she'll love anything you get her.
Yes you sure are! Nah, just a little bit on the spoiled side. She must have time on her hands. I don't even do that for my husband. I iron all his clothes, stuff them in his closet, and tell him just to grab and go. lol. You have it made Louie, as long as she doesn't comb your hair you're not a wuss in my book.
Maggie next week is my birthday and for it my dad wants to buy me a car or truck. What should i chose a sporty car or a nice big truck and why. I am torn between both and i think your vote will put me over the edge on my pick. Thanks you are the best.
Congrats by the way, I had to buy my own car lol. I personally would go for a truck, but that's to my liking. The bigger the truck the more gas you will waste, especially in town where most gas guzzling occurs. Most cars, notice I said most, are very good on gas, and are a lot cheaper on it to. For instance, I waste about $40-$80 on gas a week depending if I go out of town or not. Carr wastes like $20 for gas that will last him like for 2 weeks on his little car. Oh, buy the way I have an suv. (Yeah, that's right, I have the manlier car in the relationship, hehe) So I guess you have to put a budget in for what you can afford and not be depending on your parents forever for. Do you work? How much traveling do you do? Are you going for looks or how good the car is? Don't forget the insurance, the more fancier the vehicle, the more insurance you have to pay. With the economy the way it has been now a days, I'd honestly take a nice car right now. But if you are interested in a big truck then go for it. Remember it's your first vehicle, you'll probly have many more after that. So whether you get a car now and a truck later or vise versa; you'll still end up with what you like. Personally, if you are stuck between them, I'd go for a small SUV. It's a mix between the both, wastes more gas than a car, but less than a truck. Maybe something like an Xterra, Escape, or an Arcadia. The drive on the Arcadia is really smooth, I've driven one. Escapes have a nice drive as well. I have a honda passport, this is my second vehicle and I love it.
Have confidence in yourself, and try not to be to quiet. When dates get quiet it just drains the mode and gets boring. Put her first before anything. Open doors, pull out chairs, pay for everything, etc. Listen to what she has to say and show some interest even if the convo. is the most boring one you've heard to date. Dress nicely, you always want to dress to impress. Remember this is your first date, you only have one time to make a good impression. Be funny, just not to the point where you're annoying. Make her laugh, be polite, take her to a nice place, or at least a memorable one. If you want, plan out your evening so you know how everything is going to go, it will help get you situated at least. (Example: pick up your date, give her a carnation, go to a nice restaurant, go to a movie, and go for a drive after), between all of that you can plan out what you are ganna do. Now don' t do that exactly that's just an example. Last and more importantly, try to be yourself most of the time, you don't want to give her a mixed impression.
Let's see, if I were a 24 year old boy what would I want. lol. Guys aren't that hard to please, it depends on what he likes or what he's into, but here are a few ideas:
1. CD (his favorite band) 2. T-**** (something he can use over and over) 3. Watch (if he's anything like my guy he'll love that) 4. Wallet 5. Cap or Hat (cap meaning general team, hat meaning cowboy, etc) 6. Bake him a cake and give him a card 7. Make him a basket of his favorite treats or items he likes 8. Something he's been wanting to buy, but hasn't got around to it 9. Gift Certificate to his favorite place or shopping center 10. Video Game (if he's into them) 11. A movie he's wanted or likes 12. Jewelry (they like it just as much as we do)
Those are just a few simple items. The best ones are what comes from the heart. For example: Plan a special day, take him out to eat, to a movie, bake him a cake, and give him a card that has a special birthday wish. Hope that helped. I usually put together a bag of everyday things that he uses, or things he's been hinting for. All in all, it's the thought that counts, right?
Maggie, i have tried to get alone with my gf's BFF but i just can't do it. She is nosy and causes problems with me and my girl. How can i fix this problem without my gf getting to mad? Please Help
Hi Jake, sorry I haven't been on in a while. Just read your question. Have you tried talking to your girlfriend about this? You need to let her know how you feel about this situation, or else you're just going to be miserable through out the whole relationship. If she gets upset, oh well, let her suck it up. If she cares enough for you then she will take your feelings into consideration and try to meet you half way at least. Either that or speak to her friend about it. You can also try to avoid her bfF, take down the most consistant time she's always around and try to keep out and busy during that time. Try taking your girl friend to your house instead of hers, so her bff won't go over. Is her bff single by chance? You may want to start running ads to get her a boyfriend herself so she can bother him instead of you. haha!
Maggie hi i have a question i have a date tonite but it's kinda cold here where i live. It's like freezing here so it makes it tuff to go out. What date ideas do you think would be good without having to go out. Thanks for the ideas.
This should be an easy one for me because I never go out on dates. lol. Why don't you make it an old fashioned movie rental date. Go and rent some movies and buy a bucket of popcorn, and just cuddle the night away. This may sound boring, but it's comforting and relaxing at the same time. Instead of the usual date dinning out, why don't you order some take out and put it on some plates to seem like you're at an actual restaurant, add some music and flowers, and there you go. Do you all like games? You can also play some board games (I know it's cheesy! ), or nintendo games and have a blast with that as well. Hell, what girl doesn't like beating you all at games? Or is that just me? lol, i beat Carlos at everything, he doesn't like me to get around him when he's playing madden because that is the only game he can keep his pride in. hehe, but it's fun I wouldn't stress over it, as long as you both are together it will be fun. Heck even a night full of talking and laughing is enjoyable.
Maggie I have my prom coming up but i ain't into the whole tux thing, any ideas to look good but still stay within my alternative style. Thanks you do a great job with the colum.
No need to sport a tux. I know how over dressing can be uncomfortable. You can dress nice and be comfty with just a plain long sleeve dress shirt and a tie, add some black slacks, and a nice pair of shoes and wha-la you're instant cuteness. You can also add to the look with a sweater vest or a plain vest to give you more of a hottie look. I've posted some examples for you below. Hope this helps.
Wow, for me personally, I'd love to ride your truck. Wait, that sounded bad. haha, I'm a big truck gal. To me limos are a waste of $$, but again if you want your prom to be a memerable one and go all out then shoot for it. It's cool when you have a group of friends going with you, but it can also be kind of romantic for just two people. Then if you think about it, if you decide to go elsewhere afterwards, you'd have to be lugged around in that huge thing. lol, no hotel room for you!
Maggie hello, i got a quick question. My boyfriend's bestfriend keeps hitting on me everything my boyfriend is not around. Now at first i just played it off as a joke, but now it's getting annoying. Should i tell my bf or just tell his friend to cool it. He did threaten me and told me if i told my bf he would turn the story around and say i was the one hitting on him. Help me out if you can please.
Sorry to hear that. If that were me I'd kick that guys booty, literally. haha, but that's if it were me. lol, if I were you I'd forget that loser, and do what I think is right. If I were in that situation I'd try to tell the friend to cool it. If he keeps pushing my buttons I'm going to tell my bf. If your bf loves you he'd stand by your side, so I wouldn't be scared for that jerk to twist stories around. I doubt he'd do it, he's probly just trying to scare you. You do what you think is right. If you want to tell your boyfriend well then go for it. If he doesn't believe your story and goes with what his friend says, then you don't need a guy like that in your life anyways.
Maggie i have a friend who i really like. Me and her been friends for a long time and i am affraid if i ask her out, it might ruin our relationship. I don't know if i should risk asking her out. What do you think i should do? I am torn between being more than friends with her and not wanting to ruin our friendship.
Ask yourself one question. Is she worth the risk? You will never know until you find out. And if you never try you will always wonder of what would have been if you had gone through with it. If you're really liking her I'd say go for it. And if the friendship was a strong one, it shouldn't mess with you all. I believe that saying is a myth, I also believe that if you believe it will mess with your friendship then it will because you're basically setting your own path. Think positive and your outcome will be a success :) You can always sit down with her and just talk to her. See how she would feel about taking the next step. What's the worse that can happen? She says no. She'll let you know if it can go any further, but don't get hurt if she wants to just be friends. Be happy that at least you took the risk to ask. Good luck, and remember to be positive.
Maggie hi, I've known this guy for about 6 months and he's my best friend. We have a lot of things in common and we just seem to click. There is one problem though, my friend who introduced us has liked him for 6 years.
He pretty much ignores her and spends time with me. I don't know what to tell her. We are so into each other and we keep sneaking around so she won't see us in town. I told her that I want to hook up with him and she was pissed off. Is there a easy way to tell her we are becoming a couple?
Maggie What do you think of nose piercings, or lip rings on girls?Do you think they look hot on a girl? I am a thinking of getting one but would like your take on it first. Thanks for the advice, i try to read everything you write.
Look either way she's going to be upset. You sneak around and she finds out, she's going to be furious. You sit and tell her about you all, she'll be furious. Just note, she can't be mad forever. If he has no interest for her she should note that, and let life go on. Just become a couple, and do not worry about what she says or thinks. I know other girls or guys will disagree, but seriously if someone isn't into you get over it and let life go on. Just tell her straight out, I really like him, he really likes me please let us be happy. Let her get mad, even if it's for a while so she can just get it all out of her system. Let her know that there are plenty of fish in the sea and that 6 years of waiting was a waste for the real someone that is waiting for her out there. Good luck hunny, don't worry if she is really your good friend she'll forgive you eventually.
There once was this girl who had a lip piercing, and her name was Maggie. Yeah, that's right, I Mags have had a lip piercing, or piercings if you count all the times the needle missed, lol. I think piercings on guys and girls are hott, but only if they don't over do it, and have to have the look to go with it. I got my lip pierced, and had so much trouble finding loops or bars to fit my big lips. Then it just got annoying, because everytime i ate, I'd chomp down on the bar and pull it. It was cool for a while, but then I just got tired of it and took it out. Now it looks like i had battle scars from a snake under my lip. I also think monroes are cute, and nose piercings as well, as long as they aren't those big studded tacky ones. The little petite ones are cutes on girls. Oh, and if you aren't good with needles, I'd stay away from it, because the needles are huge and thick depending on how wide of gage you want. Anyways, all in all, I think peircings are hott on a girl or guy.

Mag hi, what do you think about artful tats on a girl? I am thinking about getting some. I like them (think of Kat Von D) style. Thanks i want your input before i get a few.
Again, I believe it depends on the type of person. I am also a tattoo lover, but only for the rockish style ones. Colored tattoos are awesome as long as they aren't tacky. I think colored tats on a girl are cute as long as they are small, the bigger they are the tackier they get. I myself wouldn't mind one on my shoulder blade. I've seen some tats on girls that look so tacky, that I wonder if they regret getting them (I have a tacky one on my ankle, I got it when I was 16, boy do I hate it.). Another thing, remember that tattoo's are permanent, so think wisely of what you want and where you want it. Kat Von D is one of my biggest idols. By the way her show starts Feb 18th I believe.
thanks Mags i really understand where your coming from. I love Kat's style as well and look up to her (Sucessful, Hot Latino women) You can bet i will be watching her show, thanks for the info and your thoughts. Rock on Mag
