I wish to thank everybody that voted for me and to Canasta Records for their interest in the people’s choice on their polls. It makes me very happy to know that you all continue to support me in my music career. I cannot take the credit alone, I owe it to MY HERO, my late father, CONJUNTO PIONEER LEGEND: ELIGIO ESCOBAR, que en paz descanse. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be who I am today. He instilled in me the passion for CONJUNTO music and to appreciate our fans and friends. My dad might not have been recognized appropriately for his talent while he was alive, but I represent his legacy, so this honor is for him as well. “Gracias, Apa! I miss you so much & Happy Father’s Day (for this coming Sunday).”
Of course, I also thank God who gives me the strength to do it all. Those of you who don’t know me personally, I am a polio survivor. And some can’t really tell, but I struggle with my handicap every day, but I don’t give up! I have a mission in life to promote CONJUNTO MUSIC, and I aim to do this until the day I die. I support all conjuntos and am willing to lend a helping hand in any way that I can. I am especially proud of our young conjunto artists! They are the future of our musical heritage and they will carry CONJUNTO forward! Los quiero mucho!
To all the nominees, YOU ARE ALL WINNERS! I respect each and every one of you for your talent and endurance in the music industry. Those of you have your immediate family in your band or a spouse; you are so blessed! Although my band members are not family, in my heart, THEY ARE!
