With the amount they are charging at the gate each day, you would think you could get better conjuntos to perform? Are these groups volunteers or are they getting paid. I do not mind playing the amount but at least get groups like Ricky Naranjo, Lazaro Perez, Gilberto Perez, etc. Mr. Tejeda I respect all the work in the past but we always talk about saving conjunto and preserving the culture but just like KEDA it seems that we are still trying to keep Tejano music instead of the conjunto culture. We have lost Lerma's, and other clubs in San Antonio that promoted conjunto music . I also blame the people for not supporting these places or radio stations, that are a business after all.
So sad that some of the YOUNG conjuntos got left out.The festival will go on and be a sucess.Mr. Tejada does a great job every year.As for Lerma's just fix the place up and bring it up to code. The owners for years made plent of money yet for some reason did not did some remoding why we'll never know? and now want to make it a land mark.Shame on the owners for not doing their part on the up keep of the building. The got a bunch of my money..Keep conjunto alive!!!
Anonymous was correct, unfortunately there are alot of awesome conjunto bands that were left out. And as stated before, Mr. Tejada's festival will be a great success. Los Cuatro Aces have always been supporters of the cause but have been unsuccessful in being in the line-up. We had the pleasure of playing years ago and every year since then, have attempted to return. It is sad that there are many bands who are willing to give their time and play (for free) so that the fans that are far away have an opportunity to see their artist that they have been missing for awhile. With the economy what it is, this event gives alot of fans the opportunity to see a number of artists at one time but for the most part see the same ones every year. We make a special effort to submit applications, write e-mails, and make phone calls with plenty of anticipation in order to secure a time slot but unfortunately, have been overlooked for the past few years. Hopefully next year will be a different situation but until then, Los Cuatro Aces would like to thank our friends, families and most of all, the fans the have supported us over the years.
I totally agree with you!! Keep trying bro and your hard work will pay off! Much continued success to you and the guys! You know la familia Munos always supports you guys!! See you all on Friday along with Lazaro Perez!!
fridays lineup is good, sat and sun lineup is very weak, its time that the conjunto festival got an upgrade, the people are the ones that suffer ,they deserve the best, the more popular conjuntos, ricky naranjo, tejano boys, los badd boys, hometownboys, lazaro perez, prestigio, alot of these groups are probably playing for free or for a very cheap price, you get what you paid for
i think people should stay away this year and show them we mean buisness they are so proud of line up its not goood but they charge you at gate like they have good bands
this event is like taking a step back for conjunto,i will probably be attending only on friday,it seems like this event is going to be more for musicians then for the people,

Please elaborate and give examples on how this is a step back and how it is more for the musicans then for the people.
for tex maniac,on taking a step back, most of the conjuntos performing on saturday are not fresh,so younger people see these groups and think that conjunto is a thing of the past, when actualy i know some groups that will definitely win the younger crowd,on being more for musicians, people dont care about clinics and workshops, their not musicians, people come to enjoy themselves and dance ,its the musicos job to make sure that happens, musicos go to workshops not the fans,i am just giving my opinion ,if the conjunto festival would hire new conjuntos maybe this event would be more exciting

Very well said. I agree with newer fresh acts that need exposure.
As for the clinics, in the past, they were held at the GCAC location. I have attended a few in the past, not as a participant, but just to ck it out. To see, who is going. All I saw was mostly young kids and few older people. It was ok. I think it served it's purpose.
As for the new acts, I agree. It would be more exciting. Areas like San Anto, Houston & The Valley have conjuntos para aventar. The Dallas Area, Lubbock, El Paso, Midland area, don't have any and if they do, it is maybe one or two groups. I am not way making justifications for the lineup, rather to point out the regions that don't have crap and see this as an opportunity to see lots of groups.
If you put your perspective from those that don't get to see conjuntos every wkend, then maybe you would not be so critical, but being critical is ok too because great ideas are then born.
@cholo...agree, but it is only a poll. The festival won't miss those 185 people if they don't go. People will still come, even if the lineup are not solid. It's an opportunity for families to spend time together and support our cultura. As well as a chance to see groups they normally would not have a chance to see live. This is why people make the trek every year.
In conclusion, I am not defending the event organizer, just the event itself. Could there be better, younger groups mixed in the the established? Yes. Do we always need to see the same old timers year after year? Yes. Those vatos are winding down. They won't be with us too much longer. Las raices have to be represented. The artists I am referring to are: Mingo, Flaco, Bene, Santiago, Bernardo and Los 2 G's. Can't have a conjunto festival without Los Dos Gilbertos....
