NYPost Leaving the audience wanting more is the goal of every musician, unless youre a musician in violence-torn Mexico. Two members of local group La Excelencia were murdered in a Guadalajara bar early Monday morning after refusing to play more songs past closing time, El Occidental of Mexico reported. When La Excelencias performance came to an end around 4 a.m. local time, four reportedly intoxicated and aggressive audience members demanded the musicians continue playing. Sensing trouble, the group extended its set by two songs, but was eventually forced to pull the plug by the bars owner, according to El Occidental. Out of nowhere, one of the instigators threw a grenade at the stage. The explosion injured one person and had panicked customers running for the exits. Martinez and Alejandro were among those who fled the bar, but they were met at the front door by a hail of bullets, presumably from the same four men who had harassed them earlier.
Listen I dont condone throwing grenades at a band who doesnt play a long enough for your liking. Its just in poor taste. But at the same time lets not make it seem like La Excelencia went out of their way to please their fans either. I mean they extended their set by 2 songs? Thats it? Thats just a standard encore where I come from. Like dont all musicians do an extra 2 songs? Just seems like if the crowd wants you to play bad enough where theyll murder you if you stop singing you should probably play 4 or 5 extra songs. After all its only 4am. The night is young.
I know if my husband or boyfriend or son even wanted to play over there i would be against it 110%. All you see is murder murder murder, things have changed down there to dangerous and for what? Just to say you played in MTY? Stupid
I have a cuz who lives in mty and he told me there was a shooting at one of the popular clubs over there where our conjuntos/tejano bands from here play. 1 was killed 2 were badly injured.
I am from this area and i for one can say the killings have gone up last few months. Groups be careful when playing in this area. Now cartel members dress like police.
