Just a quick thanks to everyone who continues to read these reviews....It's nice to know that you guys enjoy reading them, I hope that you come out of it with "las ganas" of going to see some of the bands reviewed....Everyone talks about supporting these groups by buying their Cd's, but I think going to a show, shaking a hand and saying "great job" goes a long way also....Everytime someone takes the time to say "good job bro, keep writing them" makes me want to work that much harder, I would venture to say that the bands feel the same way....
Anyway....off my soapbox and on to what you guys clicked on this review for....
Los IV del Barrio.....just one quick question, "what are they putting in the water down in VICTORIA, TX ?" Just had to ask because some of the most talented musicians are coming out of there....Well...I spent the ride home from Maks trying to find the words that could best describe this band, or a nickname that would identify them....If The Hometown Boys were "los teddy bears de la onda" then Los IV Del Barrio are the "Energizer Bunnies of conjunto" LOL...these guys just kept going and going, better yet, it was more like....OTRA!!, Y OTRA!!! and if that wasnt enough....OTRA!!! it was like this the entire night, I got tired just watching them...lol...Band consisted of Mr. Jesse Garza on bass (STCA bassist of the year) congrats on that award Tocayo!! very well deserved...Mr. Chris "Lightning" Garcia on Accordion, just an insight as to how hard this man plays, his arms cramped up, and he managed to break 2 accordions, and instead of complaining, he seemed to be quite satisfied with himself, like knowing he gave it all he had and there was the proof!! great job Chris...Mr. Arturo Gonzalez did a great job on bajo and segunda voz....and last but not least....Mr. Bennie Suniga on drums, look out for this guy...potential drummer of the year....at one point during the show I looked at the window behind me and saw the nieghborhood "street person" bobbing his head to the music and this guy is black so you can imagine the effect they had on us conjunto lovers....I, myself felt like a bobble head doll...lol....well they covered material from both CD's...highlights of the evening were "LOS LAURELES", "SENORITA CANTINERA", "POPPURI DEL BARRIO #1", "BRINDO POR TI", "JUST BECAUSE", "ESO SE LO DEJO A DIOS" and my personal favorites "MIRE AMIGO", "SOMOS DOS GATOS" I always said that no one could ever play these songs with the enthusiasm that the Hometown Boys did, but Los IV del Barrio made me rethink that statement.....Would like to thank Jesse Garza, for the shout outs to me and Canasta Records, they were very much appreciated....Once again guys, if you ever have the opportunity to see Los IV del Barrio live, dont pass it up, you wont be dissapointed, I promise....Hasta next week.....aye los wacho....
P.S. This coming weekend is Mrs. Hustletowns birthday, We are going to be at Beas Island Club, partying with Houstons Power House....AVIZO...yes, I am stepping over to the dark side (tejano music) lol....so it should make for an interesting review....
