First of all would like to take a little time to wish all Dads a happy Fathers Day....but remember that we are the blessed ones because our kids are true blessings from God...
Would like to take a little time to thank Irma and Juaquin (Maks Icehouse owners) for making Maks Icehouse a wonderful place to hang out on Sundays....The atmosphere that they provide is 1st class, from the time you arrive you are met with a smile and "un abrazo" that is truely heartfelt, til the time comes to say "see you next week"....It has become our favorite hangout, Mrs. Hustletown5591 and I frequent other places, but Maks is where our heart is....Thanks again Irma and Juaquin for your hospitality....
All right, LEO Y LOS DOMINANTEZ !!!!!! this was actually my first time seeing this band live...I actually have their debut CD, but you know that old saying "some bands sound better live?" I think this is definately the case here....live this band cannot be "restrained"....The line up consisted of Mr. Freddie Tellez on bass and segunda voz, Mr. Leo Puga on bajo and primera voz, and Mr. Charlie Saenz on accordion, I didnt get to meet the drummer, but he was really good also, the vocals were awesome, I cast my vote for the conjunto awards, but I dont remeber seeing Leo's name on the ballot, if it wasnt there, we need to refine the nomination process...Mr. Charlie Saenz, what can I say that most of us here already know, he is what he is...one of the top accordion players in conjunto, he played that HOHNER like he was born with it, great job Mr. Saenz (he is on the ballot)....At one point during their second set, there were so many people on the dance floor it looked like rush hour on the Katy freeway, unbelievable....they covered a wide assortment of material, from polkas to cumbias to shotisz (sp) to guapangos....my personal favorites were "como te llamas paloma?", "rosita de olivo", "la barca de oro" and the tribute to both Tony de la Rosa and Mr. Ruben Vela...awesome job guys!!! So if you are ever given the opportunity to see these gentlemen perform, make sure that you do, they wont dissapoint ya.....
Also performing that night was Mr. Freddie Tellez Jr......this young man is 11 yrs old...and he got up there and played 4 polkas with the band....very talented and very fluent, didnt struggle at all....with kids like this, Lil Leo, Randy G., and others Conjunto is in good hands for the future generations....here are a couple of pictures of this young man in action.....
Once again had a great time, cold beers, and EXCELLENT MUSIC....til next time....hay los wacho....
As always bro puro oro! Great review and i must agree Leo Y Los Dominantez is one of conjunto's most talented bands and really great people. Congrats on another great review bro you THE MAN!

Hustletown5591, If possible, would you get me his address information? He might be a good candidate for the Eligio Escobar Scholarship we give out in Nov. This year it will be held in San Antonio again on Nov. 7th. My email is lindaescobar@live.com. Thank you! ~Linda www.lindaescobar.com
I'm disappointed that I didn't get the contact information on the little boy that played accordion so we could award him a scholarship! Does anyone have it???
