I cannot put into words the deep grief I feel in my heart and soul for my long-time close friend and musical family member Mr. Ruben Vela. I met him at the age of 8 years old in San Jose, California when dad and I were on tour. Since then, he was like family to me. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to his wonderful family. May God grant them the strength to endure their great loss. The GREAT RUBEN VELA will be dearly missed! May he rest in peace Sinceramente, Linda Escobar
My most sincere and deepest condolences to the Vela family from an old Ruben Vela fan who lives in New Mexico (originally from El Valle de Rio Grande) and who grow up with and enjoys Ruben's music very much. A great conjunto pioneer and legend, Ruben and his music will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His music will never die, but will live on in the hearts and minds of all of your his fans, young and old. Rest in peace "El Number One."
Hello Honorio! I know that Ruben Vela is one of your great heroes in Conjunto Music and that you are very sad of his passing. I also know that if you weren't so far in Japan, you would come to his funeral. But you and I will pay tribute to him at the Tejano Conjunto festival this year. I will inform his family that you send your condolences. Ruben Vela is now in heaven with Kenji, Tony De La Rosa, Ruben Naranjo, Valerio Longoria, my dad, and many other great conjunto musicians that have gone before us. Take care and God bless you and Yoko!
