WHAT MAKES A "CONJUNTO BAND GREAT?" IS IT THE VOCALS? ACCORDION? BAJO SEXTO? TO ME, ITS THE VOCALS THAT MAKE THE BAND, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD VOICE TO GET ME TO SPEND MY MONEY, ALSO A GOOD SEGUNDA VOZ TO COMPLIMENT THE PRIMERA IS ALSO GOOD,
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
OH, AND WHAT ABOUT CONJUNTOS LIKE THE GARCIA BROS, KRAZY PIMPZ, HERMANOS CORTEZ, HOMETOWN BOYS, DOS GILBERTOS.....DO YOU GUYS CONSIDER THEM HARD CORE CONJUNTO, OR TOO MAIN STREAM?
if you think it comes down to the vocals...then what makes a polka ...a bad ass polka?...just asking...I think it comes down to all the musicians playing as a whole...and not just a bunch of musicians trying to outshine the other....that's what makes conjunto music what it is...you don't have 1 person trying to outdo the others.
Now a question for you: Define "hardcore conjunto" i think many are under the wrong impression when you refer to the above as hardcore.
to me when you hear "hardcore," the terms "raw" "unedited" and "non-commercial" come into mind. where do you find raw unedited conjunto music? ha ha ha ha....i'll tell you where...

Vince, your right, it takes good musicians, but how many albums would you buy if the vocalist sounded like a cat in heat? lol....me, not many....and hardcore conjunto like you said is mainly to me non comercial, of course everyone in the industry is hoping to get noticed, signed to a major lablel, make some money, and where do you find that "hadcore conjunto" that you talk about? Honestly I used to listen to nothing but more mainstream Tejano, but got bored when everything started sounding the same....Went to a little hole in the wall place once, and there was a conjunto band playing, and just the heart that they poured into their music, won me over, so here I am looking for that raw, undedited, non-commercial conjunto....who would you guys recommend?

"hole in the wall" - those are the best places to find "hardcore conjunto" however the bands performing should never be referred to with such a negative context. tomas navarro y grupo humilde, boni mauricio, los tremendos alacranes are only a few. the more bars you go check out on weekends, the more of the best you discover.

The fans are what makes you great, i have heard some bands that can't play or sing but for some reason fans still flock to them and support them 100%. I think being different really helps, don't be affraid to try different things. "I wish more artist would think outside the box"
First and most important you got to love and respect the music your playing. A true musican does it not for money but for the love of it. The day you start playing only the money it's time to hang it up. Also don't be affraid to express yourself through your music. If it means being a little different or getting critizied then so be it.
