I am a musican i play bajo sexto and sing. I just wanted to ask my fellow musicans out there how do you all prepare for a gig? Do you all have an rituals or anything? I for one always have a few shots of jack daniels to warm up the vocal chords lol, not alot to catch a buzz or anything just one or 2 shots to make sure i feel my thought haha. I look forward to seeing what different people out there do. You don't have to be a professional or anything i am just curious what others do before a preformance big or small. Big dance or backyard party it don't matter. Thanks raza.
I always prep my accordions a few days before, but I still doube check them a few hours before a gig. Once I'm about an hour from starting, I jam some conjunto music to fire me up. And just before I get on stage, I say a little prayer. After that, the heart takes over.
I jam to conjunto music till just when i am about to get on stage. It fires my up. I usually have some old Angel Flores or some Rene Joslin on to get the blood flowing.
i shake each of my guys hand b4 we go on... an bless myself... wit a lil prayer...an more importantly hit the right note an everything the first song... cuz if u dont hit it right on the first time... itll throw u off the rest of the night... itll be bothering you believe me ...
I always introduce my band memebers first before anything and thank them and the crowd for being there. I am grateful for me bandmates so i want to know i think very highly of them.
on the way to the gig, i always listen to my favourite music real loud (gets my creative process going and fills me with energy)
then when i get to the actual location, i have 2-3 beers before (and during) we go on. it makes me feel good and relaxes my muscles (i'm an accordion player)....and adds to the creative process!! lol.
Dude Oprea is badass! I try to sing it but aint no pro haha. I would love to learn how to really sing it one day, that's stuff can really show off your skillz. Issac did you ever record anything in oprea style?
Hey man, Why lie ...lol I'm not a pot head I don't smoke every day as a matter of fact Haven't had a joint since last year, but it helps...sometimes ...lol
the guys and i get in a huddle put our hands in like a team and say a little prayer and word of encourgement. then i will get my gear ready and do a warm up bass scale.
