I posted a decent post on this,On the who plays it better,but it was deleted it was just the simple honest truth about bands keeping it original.Most Conjuntos just record the same songs over and over.Most Tejano artists like J and David lee and others come out with new songs.Its alright to record cover songs but try and include 3 or 5 originals.Originality will always be the key.
youre right about playing original songs thats true but if u listen to tejano sometimes u cant tell whos who they all sound the same in the music its like playing a cd in slow motion
I dont want to mention any names but I think conjunto has more of that problem.There are many that are copying the legends in conjunto.Often imitated but never duplicated.But there are some good conjunto rising stars with originality that can only be counted on one hand.Lets back them up.
One big problem is that alot of the Program directors have no say in what to play at all. See it's not like the old days where stations were owned my single people or familys. Now they are almost all owned my Big Corporations. Those corporations simply hand down list from Corporate headquarters down to all their stations and tell them play this stuff. How is someone in New York going to know what the hell is popular in south Texas? It also doesnt help that Huge company's like Univision are buying up stations left and right. They are just going to play their music and that's all. Notice how the family owned stations like KEDA and KROB play music that they know will work in their area and are very successfull. My brother in law used to be a program director in Corpus Christi and said people would call in and ask to hear Mando Y La Venganza, Boni Maurcio, Linda Escobar, ect... but since none of those groups were on the list they can't play them. They have to go back to that outdated tejano music. Last time i checked Tejano music was not doing so well itself, aside for a few groups like Jimmy Gonzales. God bless the internet stations. They seem to cater to what there listeners want, which is the way it should be. I don't have a problem with a mix of Tejano and Conjunto, thats fine but give conjutno a chance and see how it does, they would be surprised to see how many people would love it!
